Good's Run is a story I stumbled upon when doing research for another book involving Montana history and the Old West.  The current version of this story derives from a screenplay I wrote for Patrick McGoohan's independent film company.  I wanted to create a page-turner for young adults and general readers that would shed light on some historical facts that are sometimes overlooked, such as the black roustabouts' dock strike at St. Louis right after the end of the Civil War, the role spiritualism played in St. Louis at the time, and what life was like on a Missouri River steamboat traveling in hostile country years before Custer and the Battle on the Little Big Horn.

Since Frederick Good lived long ago (1867), presenting dialogue became my writer's challenge.  It took a lot of reading of 1860s diaries and other recorded accounts of actual dialogues to bring characters to life.  Most characters and events are based on actual counterparts on the frontier when the fur trade was being replaced by the gold rush.
